From Asghar Farhadi, director of the Oscar-winning A SEPARATION, comes another gripping and powerful tale of secrets and lies…
Sepideh (the outstanding Golshifteh Farahani, Ridley Scott’s BODY OF LIES) is the young matriarch at the heart of a group of old friends who are taking a trip to the coast. Tagging along for the ride is the teacher of Sepideh’s daughter, the eponymous Elly (Taraneh Alidoosti, FIREWORKS WEDNESDAY), a reserved and gentle soul – at least on initial inspection – who is blissfully unaware that Sepideh has an ulterior motive for her invitation: the prospect of matchmaking Elly with the recently divorced Ahmad (Shahab Hosseini, A SEPARATION). This small deception on the part of Sepideh, while seemingly innocuous, is the trigger that will ultimately lead to a shocking twist, as her desperation to keep Elly with the group ends in tragedy.
