BROKEN LINES to premiere at Venice

Axiom Films is delighted to announce that the company’s recent production, BROKEN LINES will receive its world premiere at Venice-Days (28th August – 6th September 2008). It joins a prestigious line-up of just eleven films and, as a first feature, it will also compete for the "Luigi De Laurentiis" Award, along with other debut films in the Venice International Film Festival's main sections.

Giornate degli Autori (Venice Days) is modelled after the independent spirit of the Directors’ Fortnight Section at Cannes and runs parallel to the Venice International Film Festival as Directors’ Fortnight does with the Cannes International Film Festival. It is directed for the third consecutive year by Fabio Ferzetti.

Sadler’s Wells and Axiom put dance on the screen

London’s leading dance house, Sadler’s Wells and film producer / distributor, Axiom Films have teamed up to make filmed versions of the theatre’s most acclaimed dance performances widely available. The exclusive output deal incorporates all worldwide platforms, including television, DVD and possible theatrical exposure. Sadler’s Wells on Screen marks a new development for the theatre which, in partnership with Axiom Films, will release on DVD the first film in the series, the acclaimed co-production "Zero Degrees" in October 2008.

ZERO DEGREES is directed by Deborah May whose work across music, dance and film has included two films for Leaving Home, Sir Simon Rattle’s series on 20thC music, which won a BAFTA in 1997, directing the performance sequences for Deborah Bull’s The Dancer’s Body, and documentary portraits of Wayne McGregor, Sir Anthony Dowell and Shobana Jeyasingh for the BBC.

IN THE CITY OF SYLVIA to premiere in Edinburgh

José Luis Guerín's IN THE CITY OF SYLVIA (En La Ciudad de Sylvia), made in the French language, has been acquired by UK producer / distributor, Axiom Films.

Featuring standout performances by Pilar López de Ayala and Xavier Lafitte, the film is rapidly developing something of a cult status on the festival circuit, and will make its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June following its international premiere in Competition at the Venice Film Festival.

The film is a Spain / France co-production of an Eddie Saeta (Spain)/Chateau Rouge (France) production, and rights were acquired from DEAPlaneta.

Axiom takes TRIP TO ASIA

Berlin-based sales and production company Boomtown Media International closed a distribution deal with UK producer / distributor Axiom Films at last week's Cannes market for Thomas Grube's new theatrical documentary TRIP TO ASIA / THE QUEST FOR HARMONY.

The film was produced by Boomtown in co-production with broadcasters BBC and ZDF, and received its premiere in February at the Berlin Film Festival. It has since clocked up over 110,000 admissions on its German theatrical release so far and will be released by Axiom in October 2008.

HanWay's PALERMO SHOOTING bought by Axiom

Axiom Films has bought all UK rights to Wim Wenders's Cannes Competition entry PALERMO SHOOTING from HanWay Films. The film has also been pre-sold in France, Germany and Italy.

Axiom already owns a significant proportion of the director's previous work, including all his early films, and Axiom's Director of Acquisitions, Rocio Freire-Bernat, commented:

We are delighted with this acquisition, which represents a logical extension of our long term objective of developing a library of high quality films from both emerging and established filmmakers, and especially pleased to be continuing our association with Wim Wenders, a filmmaker we admire greatly.
